In 2010, 10 more or less extended visits abroad were arranged under the auspices of TTL. For most of them, the destination was the US. Some adventurous TTL people travelled to Spain or Australia.
Computer scientist and PhD student Terje Solvoll took the plunge along with his family and moved across the world. He chose the University of New South Wales, Australian School of Business in Sydney, ranked as one of the top five business schools worldwide. Here he worked as a regular employee under Associate Professor Pradeep Ray (Director of the Asia-Pacific Ubiquitous Healthcare Research Centre).
- It should be compulsory for everyone doing a PhD to spend at least a semester abroad, says Solvoll.
- It’s a great way to build networks, share experiences with others and achieve insight in how to write better articles.
During his stay, Solvoll wrote three articles with a research fellow, Amir Talaei-Khoei. Two of them have been accepted as articles in Level 2 journals, while the third one is in the review process for a Level 1 journal.
Coming back to TTL, all travellers share their experiences with colleagues. Through internal presentations and meetings, advice is given to those on the threshold of their great adventure, and dreams are created for those wanting to travel.
